Agawam Town Announces Senior Citizen/Veteran's Tax Work-Off Program Application Period

Agawam, MA - April 22, 2024 - The Town of Agawam is pleased to announce the commencement of the application period for the Senior Citizen/Veteran's Tax Work-Off Program. This initiative aims to provide opportunities for eligible seniors and veterans to contribute to their community while receiving assistance with property taxes.

Beginning on May 1, 2024, and running through May 15, 2024, interested individuals are encouraged to submit their applications for consideration. The program offers eligible participants the chance to work in various capacities within municipal departments, earning credit towards their property tax bills.

"We are excited to continue our commitment to supporting our senior citizens and veterans through this meaningful program," stated Mayor Christopher Johnson. "This initiative not only assists our residents in managing their property taxes but also fosters a strong sense of community involvement and civic engagement."

To qualify for the program, applicants must be either senior citizens aged 60 or older, or veterans of the United States Armed Forces. Eligible tasks may include administrative duties, maintenance work, or other assignments within town departments.

A lottery will be conducted on June 3, 2024, to select participants for the program. Only 40 slots are available for both seniors and veterans. Selected applicants will be notified promptly following the lottery drawing.

"We encourage all eligible individuals to take advantage of this opportunity to serve their community while receiving valuable property tax relief," remarked John Fitzgerald, Director of Personnel. "The Senior Citizen/Veteran's Tax Work-Off Program exemplifies Agawam's dedication to supporting those who have served our country and our older residents."
