Press Release

For Immediate Release                                                          July 30, 2018

On Tuesday, August 7, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. the Agawam Mayor’s Office and the Agawam Police Department will be hosting the 35th Annual National Night Out at the School St. Park with its community partners. The residents of the Town of Agawam are invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for this crime and drug prevention event.

National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Agawam Mayor’s Office and the Agawam Police Department, will involve over 16,728 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world.  In all, over 38.3 million people are expected to participate in “America’s Night Out Against Crime.”

National Night Out is designed to:

  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
  • Generate support for, and participate in, local anticrime efforts
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and Police-Community partnerships
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back

The event will include free food and beverages, a dance school presentation, face painting and a number of other safety-oriented activities for children and adults. These activities include bicycle safety, Child Identification Kits, as well as free document shredding to help prevent identity theft. There will be a Jaws of Life demonstration by the Agawam Fire Department and a K-9 demonstration. The event will be headlined by the band Pandemonium at the band shell starting at 7:00 p.m.

The Agawam Mayor’s Office, Agawam Police Department, Agawam Fire Department, Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, Agawam Emergency Management, Hampden County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Office will all have displays at this event, and will have representatives on hand to meet with community members.  There will also be a Blackhawk Helicopter from the National Guard landing at our event this year as well as Life Star Helicopter from Hartford Hospital.  The scheduled time for the Blackhawk and Life Star to land is at 5:00 P.M.

The Agawam Mayor’s Office and the Agawam Police Department have partnered with numerous private sector businesses that focus on home security and general public safety that will be available to discuss home security and safety, pet and animal awareness/safety and much more.  This will be Agawam’s fifth annual event and we hope that it will be as successful as our previous four events.

National Night Out is FREE to the public, so please join the Agawam Mayor’s Office, the Agawam Police Department, and our community partners for this fun and informative event for people of all ages. We look forward to seeing you!
