As part of collaboration with MassDOT, the Town of Agawam will be converting the intersection of Pine Street (Route 187) and Barry Street to an all-way stop controlled intersection. The intersection currently functions with stop control only on the east/west Barry Street approaches.
The proposed changes to this intersection are scheduled to occur on or around December 1, 2025. Message boards have been placed in the area informing local motorists.
This change is a result of recommendations by several safety studies by the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission and MassDOT. The Town of Agawam received a grant from MassDOT in the form of new LED flashing Stop signs as well as other “Stop Ahead” and “New Traffic Pattern Ahead” signs. Additional pavement marking will be installed as needed.
Please be aware that the dates for the implementation of this work are subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances such as inclement weather or other necessary emergency work.
