Did Agawam contract with a new company to collect curbside trash and recycling services?
Yes, the town signed a contract in February of 2025 with USA Waste and Recycling for all trash and recycling services beginning Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
When will USA Waste and Recycling begin servicing residents for trash and recycling collection?
Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
Will I still receive weekly trash and every other week recycling collection?
Yes
Will my trash and recycling day change?
No, trash and recycling will continue to be on the same regularly scheduled day.
Will I receive new trash and recycling carts?
No, the town currently owns all carts provided to residents. Remember that carts should never be removed from the location they were delivered.
Can I purchase additional trash and recycling carts?
No, as with the existing contract, each eligible parcel will only be allowed one trash and one recycling cart under the town’s contract with USA Waste and Recycling.
Will my trash and/or recycling cart be collected if the cover is open?
No, as with the existing contract, carts with open covers due to overflowing trash/recyclables will not be collected.
What if I have trash that exceeds the 65 gallon trash cart capacity?
Any trash in excess of the 65 gallon cart will require an official town green overflow bag. Green bags are for household trash only (no recyclable materials, hazardous waste, yard waste, bulk waste, electronics, or construction debris permitted).
Where do I get the town overflow bags?
Overflow bags are available for sale at Rocky’s Hardware, Geisler’s and Stop & Shop.
How much do the bags cost:
Bags are currently sold in rolls of 5 for $15.00.
Will I continue to receive curbside Yard Waste Collection?
Yes, yard waste will be collected on the weeks as noted on your collection schedule.
Will I receive a collection schedule?
Yes, collection schedules for July 2025 to June 2026 will be mailed the third week of June.

Will I continue to receive Bulk Collection?
Yes, bulk collection will continue to be available by appointment only with USA Waste and Recycling.
Will there continue to be a limited number of Bulk Collections throughout the year?
No, residents may now schedule a bulk collection at any time throughout the year.
Will there be a cost to have bulk items picked up?
Yes, there will be a cost per item fee to have bulk items picked up within 5 business days of scheduling. The fee depends on the nature of the bulk item being disposed.
Where can I find a list of bulk items and fees?
The Bulk Item fee list will be available online soon.
How do I schedule a Bulk pick up?
Beginning July 1st, residents may call USA Waste and Recycling. USA’s telephone number and email will be announced soon.
