AGAWAM NATIONAL NIGHT OUT
On Tuesday, August 6, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Agawam Mayor William Sapelli and the Agawam Police Department will be hosting the 36th Annual National Night Out at the School St. Park with its community partners. The residents of the Town of Agawam are invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for this crime and drug prevention event.
National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by Agawam Mayor William Sapelli and the Agawam Police Department, will involve over 16,728 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, over 38.3 million people are expected to participate in “America’s Night Out Against Crime.”
National Night Out is designed to:
Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
Generate support for, and participate in, local anticrime efforts
Strengthen neighborhood spirit and Police-Community partnerships
Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back
The event will include free food and beverages, a dance school presentation, face painting and a number of other safety-oriented activities for children and adults. Numerous activities will be bicycle safety, Child Identification Kits as well as free document shredding to help prevent identity theft. There will be a Jaws of Life demonstration by the Agawam Fire Department and also a K-9 demonstration. The event will be headlined by the band Off The Record at the band shell starting at 7:00 p.m.
The Agawam Police Department, Agawam Fire Department, Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, Agawam Emergency Management, Hampden County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Office will all have displays at this event, and will have representatives on hand to meet with community members. There will also be a Blackhawk Helicopter from the National Guard landing at our event this year, the Life Star Helicopter from Hartford Hospital as well as the Massachusetts State Police Helicopter. The scheduled time for the Blackhawk and Life Star to land is at 5:00 P.M.
Agawam Mayor William Sapelli and the Agawam Police Department have also partnered with numerous private sector businesses that focus on home security and general public safety that will be available to discuss home security and safety, pet and animal awareness/safety and much more. This will be Agawam’s seventh annual event and hope that it will be as successful as our previous six events.
National Night Out is FREE to the public, so please join Agawam Mayor William Sapelli, the Agawam Police Department, and our community partners for this fun and informative event for people of all ages. We look forward to seeing you!
