Agawam Town Announces Senior Citizen/Veteran's Tax Work-Off Program Application Period
Agawam, MA – April 14, 2025 - The Town of Agawam is pleased to announce the commencement of the application period for the Senior Citizen/Veteran's Tax Work-Off Program. This initiative aims to provide opportunities for eligible seniors and veterans to contribute to their community while receiving assistance with property taxes.
Beginning on April 22, 2025, and running through May 2, 2025 interested individuals are encouraged to submit their applications for consideration. The program offers eligible participants the chance to work in various capacities within municipal departments, earning credit towards their property tax bills.
"We are excited to continue our commitment to supporting our senior citizens and veterans through this meaningful program," stated Mayor Christopher Johnson. "This initiative not only assists our residents in managing their property taxes but also fosters a strong sense of community involvement and civic engagement."
To qualify for the program, applicants must be either senior citizens aged 60 or older, or veterans of the United States Armed Forces. Eligible tasks may include administrative duties or other assignments within participating town departments.
The program will be administered and monitored by Cindy Sullivan, the Executive Director of the Council on Aging/Senior Center. Applications must be picked up at that location and questions directed to her office. A lottery will be conducted on May 9th, to select participants for the program. 16 slots are available for both seniors and veterans. Selected applicants will be notified promptly following the lottery drawing. If the Senior declines participation based on placement then another Senior will be chosen in their place until positions are filled or applications are exhausted whichever comes first.
