[ARCHIVED] Curbside Collection Updates

Automated Collection

Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and Federal and State Emergency Declarations, more of us are staying home and practicing social distancing.  Households are generating more waste for our drivers to collect during this time.    The Agawam Department of Public Works and Republic Services are working hard to serve the community with minimal disruptions during this time.  In an effort to keep the drivers safe and collecting the essential items on the curb, the following services will temporarily be suspended:

Yard waste will be cancelled for the month of April.   Unless there is an extension of the Federal and state Emergency Declarations, it is anticipated May collections will take place with additional weeks added to the schedule.  More information will be available in the upcoming weeks.  Until then, residents may utilize the drop off option at Bondi’s Island Landfill.  No yard waste passes will be required during the month of April.  No dump trucks, commercial or business vehicles will be allowed to enter the yard waste facility as part of the Agawam program.

Bulk collections will be cancelled for the month of May.  All collections will resume on schedule during the month of July.  Please keep all items off the curb until your next scheduled collection date.  Should resident need to dispose of bulk items before July, they may utilize the K&W Transfer Station in West Springfield.  Residents should call the facility for disposal costs at 413-363-0090.

What can you do to support our drivers, essential workers that are on our streets every day, keeping our community clean?

  • Be sure all trash is bagged and inside the cart, if at all possible.  Overflow bags must be on top of or next to trash container.
  • Collection trucks need clear access to service carts.  Please be sure all carts are at least 3 feet away from all objects, including cars parked on the street.
  • Please have carts on the curb by 7am of your collection day.
  • All recycling must be in the recycling cart.  At this time, please do not leave broken down cardboard outside the recycling cart.
  • Latex and other disposable gloves are not recyclable.  Please throw latex and other disposable gloves in trash bags.
  • For a complete list of what is recyclable, visit www.recyclesmart.org

“We greatly appreciate your cooperation and patience during this time.  We understand this may be an inconvenience, however, it is imperative that we follow the Governor’s mandate which states only essential services be provided at this time.  We are hopeful this will all be behind us and we will be back to normal in the near future.  Be safe, be healthy, and stay positive”.  Mayor William Sapelli
